HP Laserjet 4000 Series Firmware Error - Resend Upgrade FIX

Error: When upgrading firmware on HP Laserjet 4000 series printers the upgrade will complete successfully but leave you with a "Resend Upgrade" msg on your printer causing people to scream wildly.

If you haven't already upgraded to the latest do that first as I here this error is mostly associated with earlier firmware upgrades. Then again if your running a trusty 5-10 year old printer you may be stuck with the old firmware anyway. Two possible solutions are available

Solution 1 : Clearing On Screen Messages ( easiest method )

-    Turn the printer power off.
-    Power on the printer and watch for the memory count to begin.
-    Holds down the STOP button when you see the memory counts begin. Continue holding down the STOP button until all three printer control-panel lights flash once and then remain on. This might take up to 10 seconds.
-    Press the SELECT (Checkmark) button and then the MENU Button.
-    Scroll down until you see “Clear All RFU Errors”.
-    Press the Select button twice until the highlighted cursor is the letter “C” in the word “Clear”.
-    Scroll down until you see “Set Runmode to Manual”.
-    Press the Select button once until the highlighted cursor is on the letter “R” in the word “Runmode”.
-    Scroll down until you see “Set RFU Error Off”.
-    Press the Select button twice until the highlighted cursor is on the letter “S” in the word “Set”
-    Turn the printer off and power up the printer.

Solution 2: The Not so Easy

Solution 2 is to re-upgrade your firmware but before you do this make sure that you have removed your duplexer and any additional trays you have installed in the printer. Retry the firmware upgrade if you still see the resend upgrade msg , continue on

If your firmware has failed again or you receive the same " RESEND UPGRADE " msg your other option is to disable the network card on the printer, connect to it via the parallel port and upgrade the firmware that way. It is suggested that you upgrade to a newer firmware version if possible but the same version may also work.

there you have it , I hope that helps someone
